The COPLASA boiler project, developed by Triniton, was structured in two stages, focusing on operational efficiency, optimization of existing assets and increased steam generation capacity.

The solution preserves the facility’s existing footprint and maximizes the use of installed infrastructure, enabling expansion with optimized CAPEX and a high level of technical and economic efficiency.

Key improvements include the replacement of the former masonry boiler with a modern finned water-wall boiler, the implementation of a hybrid grate system to increase operational flexibility, and the expansion of the heat-transfer surface, resulting in greater efficiency and combustion stability.

Even before completion of the second stage, which will increase capacity to 150 t/h, the boiler has already exceeded its original nominal capacity of 100 t/h. Prior to the project, the unit operated between 80 and 90 t/h; following the first-stage improvements, it began reaching 110 t/h, demonstrating significant productivity gains, restored operational efficiency and the success of the retrofit.

As a result, the project increases steam generation capacity from 100 t/h to 150 t/h, while retaining existing civil foundations, bagasse conveying systems and several electrical drives. This approach significantly reduces implementation costs and allows the improvements to be carried out over two off-season periods without affecting the plant’s operational continuity.

More than a technical project, this initiative consolidates a partnership built on trust, close collaboration and continuous technical alignment. Grupo Moreno’s strategic vision, combined with Triniton’s engineering capabilities, results in a robust, efficient solution designed to sustain consistent operational gains over the coming harvest seasons.

Strategic retrofit at CEMMA increases reliability, availability and steam generation capacity

At Grupo Moreno’s CEMMA unit, the company carried out a retrofit project that demonstrates significant gains in efficiency and availability through targeted technical interventions. The results are highlighted by José Valentim, Mechanical Maintenance Coordinator at Grupo Moreno.

The boiler retrofit project at the CEMMA unit was designed with a clear and objective focus on improving the combustion system, without requiring complete equipment replacement or an increase in fuel consumption.

The improvements included the complete replacement of the grate system, reengineering of the hot-air system and optimization of fuel distribution within the furnace. These changes provide more efficient combustion, improved thermal utilization, greater operational stability and increased boiler availability throughout the harvest season.

With this approach, operations become more predictable and robust, significantly reducing unplanned shutdowns and ensuring that the plant operates under continuous conditions, which is essential to maximize crushing capacity and production.

The project was developed through close collaboration and exceptional technical alignment between the teams involved, combined with the strategic vision and strong sense of priority demonstrated by the plant’s management, which clearly identified critical operational points and the value of the solutions proposed by Triniton.

This convergence between strategy and engineering is what enables tangible results in the field: greater operational stability, increased availability and continuous, robust and predictable operation throughout the harvest season, consolidating a partnership based on trust and proven performance.

The results of the CEMMA boiler project demonstrate significant performance gains. The unit, which previously operated at around 150 t/h, began reaching its nominal capacity of 200 t/h following the implemented improvements, representing a substantial increase in steam production. Based on the results achieved, further optimization initiatives are already being evaluated to increase capacity to 220 t/h.
